TLC, a much-celebrated girl group, rose to prominence in the early ‘90s and left their mark as one of the most influential and commercially successful entertainers in the history of music. A&E Network recognizes their incomparable contributions to the world and plans to highlight them in a new documentary slated to premiere in 2021.

Biography: TLC, directed by Matt Kay, and executive produced by renowned Academy and Emmy-winning director Roger Ross Williams, with T-Boz and Chill also overseeing, will share personal insight from the active members as they detail powerful and emotional accounts from the height of their success to the career-consuming moments in between. It will mark the first time the two women have revealed their journey in a feature documentary.

In a press statement, Elaine Frontain Bryant, EVP and Head of Programming, A&E Network, expressed excitement about the debut of the upcoming film. “The ‘Biography’ banner has always focused on telling the stories of remarkable people who have had a major impact on our collective culture,” she explained. “As a revolutionary group that broke boundaries and influenced an entire generation, TLC falls directly into that category and we are honored to tell their incredible story as it has never been told before.”

Williams added, “As someone who has long been in awe of TLC and their musical and cultural impact, I am thrilled to be a part of bringing the story of their music, their journey, and their continuing reverence to the screen. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with A&E, as well as filmmaker Matthew Kay, to bring this film to life. We hope this film illuminates a side of this incredible group and Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins, Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes, and Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas that longtime fans and viewers alike have not seen before.”

The self-titled 2017 album was the final album by the multi-awarded group. It was the first album since 2002’s 3D, which featured unreleased vocals from the beloved Left-Eye, who tragically lost her life that same year.

Last year, TLC celebrated the 20th anniversary of FanMail. Check out our in-depth album retrospective here.Â
