Fans of The National got another sneak peek at new music on Tuesday (July 10).
The indie band spiced things up and performed two new songs during their show in Zagreb, Croatia. Although both songs were debuted live last week at Justin Vernon's Eaux Claires' Festival in Wisconsin, this is the first time they have been captured on video. Based off of this fan footage, the new tracks fit right into the band's discography of melancholy and somber anthems.
“So Far, So Fast” features simplistic but touching lyrics like, “We have friends in good houses/We have kids in the trees/How I have nothing but sleepless nights/About everything?” Their other track “Quiet Light” pairs Matt Beringer's bellowing vocals with stuttering percussion and gradually intensifying guitar riffs.
The band is currently on a European tour supporting their 2017 album Sleep Well Beast, but their new album Boxer Live in Brussels — a recording of their album performance of Boxer in Brussels, Belgium on the record's 10 year anniversary – is due to be released this Friday (July 13).
