Welcome back to Takeover Tuesday, where each week Streets Talkin taps chart-topping artists and taste-makers to compile their very own playlist exclusive to Streets Talkin's Spotify account. We give the artists free reign to base the list on whatever subject they choose. The only rule? Make it as creative and unique to them as possible.
We the Kings are no strangers to the Vans Warped Tour. The pop rock band played the traveling summer festival seven times from 2008-2016, so it's no surprise that they'd be invited back for the final cross-country trek this year — or that they'd want to pay tribute to it with their Takeover Tuesday playlist.
“As a tip of the cap to the last Vans Warped Tour ever, we’ve selected bands that have made Warped such a special place for We the Kings — some watching from the stage, some watching from the crowds years back,” frontman Travis Clark and drummer Danny Duncan tell Streets Talkin.
Of course, all the guys' picks include some of the most famous groups in the music Warped celebrates, whether its megahits such as Paramore's “Misery Business” and My Chemical Romance's “Helena (So Long & Goodnight)” or fan favorites like Taking Back Sunday's “A Decade Under the Influence” and Anberlin's ”Never Take Friendship Personal.” We the Kings' playlist also features classics from fellow Warped returnees Simple Plan (“Perfect”), New Found Glory (“My Friends Over You”) and 3OH!3 (“Don't Trust Me”). Needless to say, it's the perfectly emo way to properly prepare for the fest's last hurrah.
If you're making your way to one of the remaining shows on the trek, be sure to catch We the Kings, who will be on every date until Warped Tour's final show Aug. 5 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Though the group has been playing a hit-packed set since Warped's kickoff in Ponoma, California, on June 21, they've also included their latest single, “On My Love,” from WTK's new album, Six, which they just released July 6.
