Stars the Lid Reissue 'Gravitational Pull Vs the Desire for an Aquatic Life'

Ambient greats Stars the Lid haven’t released a new album in over a decade, but the duo Brian McBride and Adam Wiltzie are once again looking back at their early days with a new vinyl reissue.

On March 30, Kranky will re-release Star the Lid’s sophomore album Gravitational Pull Vs the Desire for an Aquatic Life, marking the first time it’s been pressed on vinyl in over two decades.

Gravitational Pull Vs the Desire for an Aquatic Life originally came out on the Sedimental label in 1996, with Kranky issuing it later on CD. For this vinyl reissue, the original mix has been remastered by Pieter De Wagter.

For the uninitiated, Kranky explains the album like this:

This is a transitional release that travels from the scruffiness the debut’s ambiance to more extended and subtle undulating tides assembled sound, yet still dominated by processed guitars as the primary sound source. It also serves as an omen to the mini-orchestral works to come, beginning with the Avec Laudenum album a few years later. Gravitational Pull… is a small masterpiece.

For a taste that, you can hear the album track “Be Little with Me” beneath the record’s tracklist, which remains true to the original pressing.

You can pre-order the reissue here.
