Up-and-coming alt-pop star Wens has unveiled the lyric video for her latest single "Rich & Famous," premiering with Streets Talkin on Friday (Nov. 8).
On the track, the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter calls out the greed, bloodlust and constant pressure that comes from chasing fame. "'Cause we live in a paper town full of fake things/ Plastic crowns, nothin' ever how it seems/ All the people say/ Would you rather be rich and famous/ Or fit into the crowd, be nameless?/ Do you wanna sell your soul to the devil/ To go up one notch, one level?" she questions over booming pop production.
"I wrote this song from a very uncertain, insecure place, but it turned into being really empowering to me, which I love," Wens tells Streets Talkin. "Usually, I'm not good at being encouraging — I'm constantly cynical — but writing this song lifted a huge weight off my chest. Like, 'Oh, right, you're taking life way too seriously. Chill out. The world will keep turning. Just be you and everything else will work itself out.'"
The sparkling new track follows the singer-songwriter's earlier single, "Cinderella" ahead of her debut EP Lemoncholy, which is set to be released soon R&R/Warner Records.
