Jack Gilinsky hosted a Streets Talkin Live At-Home performance Thursday (April 30) to raise money for Meals on Wheels America, which delivers meals to senior citizens.
Gilinsky first got his six seconds of fame on the now-defunct Vine app with his childhood friend Jack Johnson, as the two later transformed their social-media success into a flourishing musical career as Jack & Jack. After the duo released their debut album, A Good Friend Is Nice, early last year, the 23-year-old artist went on to release his first solo single two weeks ago titled “My Love” featuring Don Toliver.
“This song is about really loving someone so much that no matter what they do to you, you’ll always come back to them because that’s the love of your love,” he said during his half-hour set. “But at the same time, there’s this feeling of self-love.”
Gilinsky tuned two different acoustic guitars for this concert, one for “My Love” and one for his cover of Snow Patrol‘s top five Streets Talkin Hot 100 hit “Chasing Cars,” which he lauded as one of his favorite songs despite one fan commenting, “Grey’s Anatomy ruined this song” for placing it during multiple heart-wrenching death scenes.
“That song honestly gets me through a lot of hard times, and the reason why I picked this song is because obviously the world and America and everybody watching from any country right now is affected by this pandemic. And I think it’s really important that we come together,” Gilinsky said in his defense. “And I feel like a song like that really brings people together.”
