George Ezra has been sitting at No. 1 on the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart for the past two weeks with his song Shotgun, but now hes asking fans to knock him off. Instead, he wants the 1996 song “Three Lions” to take the top spot in honor of England's soccer team making it to the World Cup semifinals.

I think its time we knock it off the No. 1 spot with Three Lions,”Ezra said in a Twitter video Monday (July 9). “We go out, we download, we stream Three Lions and we get it to No. 1. And you know why? Its cause its coming home.

Its coming home refers to the chorus of Three Lions, which was released in 1996 by Britpop band The Lightning Seeds and comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner. The single became the anthem for the 1996 European Championship, specifically dedicated to Englands national soccer team. The song title is in reference to the England team crest, which includes three lions — also the emblem of King Richard I.

Whenever England plays well — their next match is vs. Croatia on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET — Three Lions seems to be coming home to the charts. The song re-entered the Official U.K. Top 40 Singles Chart at No. 24 this week.

The official music video for Three Lions (Footballs Coming Home) shows Englands team playing over the years.
