Ella Mai's 'Boo'd Up' Hits No. 1 on Adult R&B Songs Chart

Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up” conquers another radio format as it rises 2-1 to crown the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart for the first time. The tune leads the July 14-dated list, spurred by a big 27 percent surge in plays in the week ending July 8, according to Nielsen Music.

Mai is the first artist to reach the top with her debut chart entry since Cardi B, whose “Finesse” collaboration with Bruno Mars led for three weeks in April-May. Among singers, it’s the first debut entry to hit No. 1 since SZA’s “Love Galore,” featuring Travis Scott, ruled for nine nonconsecutive frames from January – April.

Multiple radio formats have embraced “Boo’d.” In addition to its Adult R&B Songs coronation, the track holds at its No. 2 peak for a sixth consecutive week on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop and advances 7-5 to a new peak on Rhythmic Songs, riding a 7 percent boost in plays in the week.

Beyond its expected rhythmic base, top 40 pop radio also shows signs of warming up to “Boo’d’: The tune nears the threshold of the Pop Songs airplay chart, showing a 30 percent gain in plays in the week.

The single’s success also spells good news for parent EP, Ready. The set holds at its No. 4 peak on the Top R&B Albums chart for a second frame, while it reaches a new peak on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (27-18) and crosses into the top 40 of the all-genre Streets Talkin 200 (50-39).
