Mark Calderon is back with the first solo song of his career: the infectious new single "It's Like Good Sex," premiering exclusively on Streets Talkin below. The Color Me Badd singer decided to embark on his own musical journey to explore the creative freedom of a solo venture and share his growth as an artist with the world.
“It’s my time to explore on my own time and terms. It’s the freedom as an artist, a songwriter, an entertainer, and now it’s my time," said Calderon. "I’m so excited about this new journey.”
Color Me Badd — best known for their 1991 Streets Talkin Hot 100 No. 1 hits "All 4 Love" and "I Adore Mi Amor" and the provocative No. 2-peaking "I Wanna Sex You Up" — initially parted ways in 1998, with each member pursuing seperate career paths and occasionally reuniting for performances in recent years.
Calderon's latest effort sparks a new musical direction for the singer, as "It's Like Good Sex" encompasses upbeat dance elements that are fused with Calderon's trademark R&B vocals. The energetic pop beat makes for a catchy and fun tune that comes just in time for summer. "This girl she's vibing me/ This night no stopping me/ Alarms and robbery/ She's taking all of me," Calderon sings to the feel-good beat.
Calderon says the decision to release a solo song came after he and the rest of Color Me Badd embarked on the I Love the '90s Tour a few years ago, performing alongside fellow '90s hitmakers Vanilla Ice, Salt-N-Pepa, Tone Loc and Young MC. The singer began working on his new single in August of last year with co-writers Todd William Nystrom and Isaiah Pittman.
"I’ve never felt so positive about life and sharing who I am to the world," Calderon told Streets Talkin. "Let the story be told — my time is now!"
