Ashanti is once again dipping her toe in the acting pool. The Grammy winner has accepted a starring role in the new Build-A-Bear live-action feature film Honey Girls, inspired by its toy line.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Ashanti will play Fancy G, a global phenomenon that hosts a talent competition in the search for the next great solo artist. Three young, ambitious talents are on board to audition for the show but decide to band together and form a secret band called Honey Girls.

Now, as a trio, the ladies are forced to let the success die down for their viral hit or get eliminated by Fancy G to save their budding friendship.

The film, directed by Trey Fanjoy, will also star Aliyah Mastin, Ava Grace, Frankie McNellis, and Tessa Brooks. Fanjoy collaborates with screenwriters Mike Mariano and Cindy McCreery for Honey Girls, which will begin production soon.

In 2019, Ashanti starred in and executive produced the film Stuck

Ashanti recently participated in Verzuz alongside her opponent Keyshia Cole. That same night, the appointed princess of hip-hop soul shared the new song “2:35 (I Want You).” She quickly followed up a supporting music video

Still no word on the title or release date for her next studio album. Her last album was 2014’s Braveheart.
