Cara also performed the live debut of her new song “A Little More” at an Amazon event after her TV appearance.
Alessia Cara stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to celebrate her 22nd birthday on Wednesday night (July 11) with an energized performance of her single “Growing Pains.”
As always, the Best New Artist Grammy winner sounded smooth and flawless as she crooned the track, the lead single from her upcoming sophomore album, due out later this year.
Dressed in an oversized suit like the one featured in the track's artwork and lyric video, Cara was backed by a three-piece band and a trio of back-up singers wearing similarly formal gear, including baggy gray slacks, billowing white button-down shirts and yellow ties. The singer confidently strode across the stage during the intense performance, gripping the mic as she sang intensely about the growing pain keeping her up at night.
Following her Colbert appearance, Cara hopped over to Amazon Music's Unboxing Prime Day event to perform “Growing Pains” once more, along with her other hits “Here,” “Scars to Your Beautiful” and Zedd collaboration “Stay.” After fans sang her “Happy Birthday,” the freshly 22-year-old also debuted her newest release “A Little More,” a heartfelt acoustic love song that she admitted she was incredibly nervous to perform for the first time. But whether she was on live TV or performing a new song, Cara's nerves certainly didn't get the best of her.
