Julian Petty Says Vince Staples’ “Summertime ’06” Is Long Beach’s “Illmatic”

Vince Staples has received a lot of praise over the past few years, mostly for his consistency and ability to reflect on the struggles of where he's from.

Recently speaking with HipHopDX, Julian Petty, the attorney for the estates of numerous artists as well as Staples' described the California emcee's work ethic.

"He speaks about the truth, he speaks about the mind, he lives those words, he's extremely talented and very, very dedicated," he said via a segment of today's (July 21) DX Daily. "I'm just happy to be on his team. He's always thanking me for closing a deal, make sure he's protected and I'm thanking him I'm like, 'Dude, I feel like I'm part of Illmatic.'"

Petty also called Vince Staples' latest album release the pinnacle of projects that've come out of his hometown.

"[Summertime '06] is Long Beach's Illmatic, I'm telling you!" he said.
