Some internet sleuthing over the weekend uncovered a website that pointed to a new album from Gorillaz arriving in late June. Now, some more evidence has been uncovered that the band will indeed release a new album titled The Now Now on June 29.
Consequence Sound points out that French actress Emma de Caunes — wife the group’s co-founder Jamie Hewlett — posted an image confirming The Now Now on her Instagram. You can see a screenshot her post below, signalling the album’s arrival on June 29.
The Now Now was first teased a series posters at London’s All Points East festival, featuring cryptic slogans and the url thenownow.tv. One the posters reads “NO MORE UNICORNS ANYMORE,” a slogan that Hewlett recently posted on Instagram.
Gorillaz delivered Humanz last year, which marked their first full-length since 2011’s The Fall.
Hewlett first made mention new music to follow Humanz in 2018 back in December last year, saying, “We’re going straight into the next album with no break. Usually we have a good five-year break between each album but we decided: ‘You know what? Let’s keep going’ because there’s ideas for a few more albums so we’re going to go straight into that.”
Gorillaz debuted new tracks “Idaho” and “Hollywood” in live sets earlier this year, with the latter featuring an appearance from Snoop Dogg. Albarn had indicated to a crowd in Chile that “Hollywood” would appear on The Now Now.
